CUPRA KIRO takes on the legendary Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City

New year, same high energy. CUPRA KIRO is back in action with a new look this weekend as the FIA Formula E World Championship heads to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for the second round of the 2024/25 season: the Mexico City E-Prix.

Having announced an exciting multi-year co-title partnership with CUPRA on the eve of the season-opener in São Paulo, Mexico City will see CUPRA KIRO roll-out a new visual identity which will be revealed on Friday, 10 January.

Defined by a fierce, fiesta-like atmosphere, Mexico City always packs a punch, and with a population of almost 22 million inside its Greater metropolitan area, is one of the most culturally diverse destinations in the world. In 2025, CUPRA KIRO will aim to  make its mark as its debut season in Formula E continues.
Discover The Circuit
With a legendary reputation that few circuits can match, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is one of the most iconic tracks on the 2024/25 schedule, and thanks to its long straights, sweeping constant-radius corners, and heavy braking zones, it’s also one of the most unique.

But at more than 2,000 metres above sea level, the venue has the highest altitude of any Formula E circuit, which makes it one of the most challenging tracks of the season. Because of its altitude, Mexico City’s air is so thin that it reduces drag, allowing for higher top speeds and improved energy efficiency due to less air resistance.

However, alongside the immediate advantages, there’s also a twist. Mexico City is one of the most demanding circuits in Formula E when it comes to tyre wear, and as such, it will provide an interesting challenge as teams adapt to Hankook’s new softer and faster 2024/25 compound.

With this in mind, finding a well-balanced car setup and run plan strategy is critical, and it’s the reason why the Mexico City E-Prix continues to pose some of the most complex engineering challenges in Formula E. Expect the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez to deliver its signature mix of excitement and unpredictability this weekend.
Last Time Out
CUPRA KIRO’s debut season in Formula E got underway in Brazil last December, and at the São Paulo E-Prix, our drivers, Dan Ticktum and David Beckmann, kick-started the 2024/25 campaign in style by securing a landmark first points finish for the team.

Although CUPRA KIRO set out with conservative expectations, growing positive momentum throughout the weekend put the American squad in the heat of battle, with both Dan and David fighting inside the top 10 on a consistent basis.

Featuring one Safety Car, and two Red Flag periods, the race was far from plain sailing, but by rising to the challenge, CUPRA KIRO secured a historic maiden top 10 finish in Formula E, thanks to an eighth place for Dan.

With four points on the board, CUPRA KIRO holds sixth in the Formula E World Teams’ Championship on the approach to Mexico City, two points ahead of DS Penske, and just two points behind Envision Racing.
Hear From CUPRA KIRO
Alex Hui, Team Principal, CUPRA KIRO
“As one of Formula E’s most established races, the Mexico City E-Prix is one of the most iconic events on the 2024/25 calendar, and we’re excited to take on the challenges that the circuit has to offer. After a very memorable São Paulo E-Prix, we’ve worked hard to align our data to identify where we can solidify our strengths and improve in our weaknesses to optimise our package for this weekend. There’s a good mood in the team, and we’re ready to build on our momentum to show what CUPRA KIRO is capable of here in front of Mexico city’s passionate fan base”

Russell O’Hagan, Chief Operating Officer, CUPRA KIRO
“We come to Mexico off the back of a solid first race in Brazil but wanting more and looking to take another step forward.  Its going to be an interesting event and we expect the new tyres to play a big part in dictating how we all build up to Qualifying.  Come the race we will be aiming to unlock a little more potential as we continue to grow our knowledge of the car and gain confidence in how to optimise it.”
Dan Ticktum, Driver, CUPRA KIRO
“Overall, I think Mexico City is one of the best events of the year from a fan and atmosphere perspective. I always enjoy interacting with and seeing the fans there. There’s great energy all around to be honest, and on the in lap, it’s one of the few places where you can hear the crowd in the stadium which is pretty cool and quite unique. With the track itself, Qualifying is very important – more important than São Paulo – so we need to make sure that we get the car in the window. Overall, I just want to get cracking. I’m very, very excited for the season and I’m looking forward to Mexico.”

David Beckmann, Driver, CUPRA KIRO
“I’m really looking forward to Mexico City. The track is very different to what we raced in São Paulo, and obviously, that means we’ll have a different strategy in the race, but I think we have a very strong package to fight with. In general, São Paulo was quite difficult for me, but I had some very positive moments as well, and without the contact, I think we could have been looking at a double points finish. I did the fastest lap at the end of the race, and I think that shows our potential and speed. I feel happy in the team, everyone is working very well together, and operationally, our first weekend was very smooth with the GEN3 Evo. In Brazil we may not have gotten the points we wanted, but we’ve still got a lot to give. I’m confident we can regain those lost points in Mexico, and I’m excited to get the weekend started.”
